Sarathkumar to Formally Request Defined Role from BJP Leadership
Actor-politician Sarathkumar announced on Sunday that he intends to write to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, seeking a clearly defined role within the party. This decision comes after his supporters expressed significant concerns regarding the absence of specific responsibilities assigned to him since his formal induction into the BJP.
Supporters Voice Concerns Over Political Strategy
Sarathkumar revealed that his supporters feel the merger of his party, the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK), with the BJP might not have been the optimal strategic move. "When I joined the BJP, I was assured of a role at the national level. My supporters feel that instead of merging AISMK with the BJP, we could have continued as an independent party," he stated during a meeting with long-time associates in Chennai.
He clarified his personal stance, emphasizing, "I am not dissatisfied, but I do feel a sense of concern." The actor-politician highlighted that his decision to join the BJP was primarily driven by respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Future Electoral Plans and Functional Challenges
In a significant declaration regarding future political contests, Sarathkumar confirmed that neither he nor his wife, actress-politician Raadhika Sarathkumar, will be contesting in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. However, he raised a pertinent question about operational effectiveness within the party framework.
"But how can we function during elections without any responsibility?" he questioned, pointing to the practical difficulties of engaging in electoral activities without a designated role or portfolio. This statement underscores the core issue prompting his planned communication with the BJP's central leadership.
The development marks a crucial moment in Sarathkumar's political journey within the BJP, as he seeks to formalize his position and contributions to the party's objectives in Tamil Nadu and at the national level.
