Margao: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has strongly opposed the state government’s proposal to redevelop the Margao KTC bus stand under the public private partnership (PPP) mode, warning of a public agitation if the government pressed ahead with the plan.
“We won’t allow the bus stand to be built on the PPP model in Fatorda — there’s no question about it,” Sardesai said. “The government hasn’t shown us the model. It’s a scam. I have said it in the assembly too.”
“We want a bus stand, not some grand five-star hotel and other things,” he said, adding that the government was free to undertake the redevelopment using its own funds. “It will face a public agitation if it goes ahead with this,” he warned.
The PPP proposal has been in the pipeline since September 2025, when the transport department floated a tender for the redevelopment, operation, maintenance and transfer of the Margao bus terminal. Chief minister Pramod Sawant had reiterated the plan in his budget speech in March, announcing that the redevelopment of bus terminals in Margao, Mapusa and Vasco would be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 745 crore this financial year.
The existing bus stand, spread over 67,600 square meters, serves as a key transit hub connecting Margao to cities across Goa and destinations in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
