Sasikala Advocates for Community Harmony and Slams DMK Governance in Madurai Rally
In a significant political address in Madurai, V K Sasikala, the General Secretary of the All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK), emphasized the importance of respecting the sentiments of all communities and fostering unity. Her comments came amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the lighting of the deepam atop the Thiruparankundram hill, a site of religious and cultural significance.
Campaign Focus on Unity and Electoral Support
Sasikala campaigned at the Thiruparankundram bus stand on Tuesday, rallying support for her party candidate T Thanapandian. During her speech, she directly addressed the deepam issue, stating, "We should respect the sentiments of all communities and act in unity." This call for harmony highlights the sensitive nature of the controversy, which has sparked debates across Tamil Nadu.
She urged voters to cast their ballots for Thanapandian to secure a decisive victory and appealed for full support for candidates from Dr Ramadoss's party and other coalition allies. Sasikala predicted that many parties currently aligned with the DMK would disappear from the political scene after the election, signaling a potential shift in the state's political dynamics.
Sharp Criticism of DMK's Financial Management
Turning to governance, Sasikala launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, asserting that its five-year tenure has led to the worst financial health in Tamil Nadu's history. She claimed that revenues meant for the government are being diverted elsewhere, undermining public welfare.
Specifically targeting the energy sector, she alleged that the DMK administration is purchasing electricity from private entities at exorbitant rates, ranging from 15 to 25 per unit. This, she argued, places an undue burden on consumers and reflects poor policy decisions.
Vision for a Prosperous Tamil Nadu
Sasikala emphasized that Tamil Nadu can only achieve prosperity by replacing what she described as the current "anti-people monarchical rule" with a true democracy that serves all sections of society. Her remarks underscore a broader critique of the DMK's governance style, positioning her party as an alternative focused on inclusive development.
