Satheesan Condemns PC George and Son for Alleged Defamation of Catholic Church

Opposition leader V D Satheesan has strongly criticized former legislator P C George and his son Shone George for making what he described as defamatory statements against certain clergymen of the Catholic Church and its official publication, Deepika. The controversy stems from allegations that the Church and its mouthpiece were actively working and publishing content against BJP candidates during the recently concluded assembly elections in Kerala.

Allegations of BJP-Backed Intimidation Tactics

Satheesan asserted that P C George and Shone George, who contested as NDA candidates in Poonjar and Pala constituencies respectively, were attempting to threaten the Church with the explicit support of the BJP leadership. He emphasized that their actions were not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of intimidation orchestrated by the ruling party at the national level.

"The defamatory statements by P C George and his son against the Catholic Church and Deepika are absolutely deplorable," Satheesan stated during a press conference. "Such actions clearly have the backing of the BJP leadership. Realizing that they may not receive the expected votes in the elections, the BJP leadership has resorted to intimidation tactics against religious institutions."

Warning Against Attacks on Christian Community

The opposition leader issued a stern warning that any attempt to attack the Christian community would be met with strong resistance from secular Kerala. He declared that the United Democratic Front (UDF) would be at the forefront of counteractions against such divisive politics.

Satheesan demanded immediate clarification from both the central and state leadership of the BJP regarding their stance on the derogatory remarks made by George and his son. He challenged them to publicly distance themselves from what he characterized as hateful rhetoric targeting religious minorities.

Criticism of Sangh Parivar's Political Strategy

In his most pointed remarks, Satheesan compared Sangh Parivar organizations to "wolves in sheep's clothing" who pursue contradictory agendas. He accused them of hunting Christians nationwide while simultaneously visiting clergy residences with gifts during election seasons to solicit votes.

"The people of Kerala possess the practical wisdom to recognize Sangh Parivar's deceitful tactics," Satheesan asserted. "Their agenda of intimidation and defamation will not succeed in our state. Kerala has always stood for secular values and will continue to resist any attempts to undermine religious harmony through political manipulation."

The opposition leader's comments highlight growing tensions between political parties and religious institutions in Kerala, particularly following the recent assembly elections where allegations of religious polarization have surfaced repeatedly. Satheesan's statements reflect broader concerns about the protection of minority rights and the preservation of Kerala's secular fabric against what he perceives as coordinated attacks from right-wing political forces.
