Belagavi MP Slams State Government Over Railway Project Delays
Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar launched a sharp critique against the Congress-led state government on Sunday, accusing it of causing significant delays to crucial railway projects, most notably the proposed Belagavi–Dharwad line. Shettar attributed these holdups to what he described as non-cooperation and administrative failure on the part of the state authorities.
Financial Constraints and Land Acquisition Issues
Addressing reporters at his office, Shettar asserted that the state government is facing severe financial difficulties, which have directly impacted its ability to provide compensation for land acquisition necessary for railway works. "The government is financially bankrupt. There are no expectations from the state budget," he stated emphatically.
He specifically highlighted the Belagavi–Dharwad railway project, alleging that it is being stalled due to the acquisition of approximately 55 acres of land near Dharwad. Shettar further claimed that Minister Santosh Lad is actively obstructing this process, exacerbating the delays.
Broader Criticisms on Law and Order and Political Actions
Shettar also commented on other pressing issues, expressing concern over the state of law and order. Referring to a recent stone-pelting incident during Shivaji Jayanti celebrations in Bagalkot, he termed it unfortunate and alleged a deterioration in security. He accused the administration of failing to identify the real culprits and shielding those responsible.
On the political front, Shettar addressed the Lokayukta raid against MLA Dr. Chandru Lamani, describing it as pre-planned and politically motivated. He drew parallels to a previous raid on MLA Sampangi, suggesting that Dalit leaders are being selectively targeted in such actions.
National Politics and Calls for Investigation
Expanding his criticism to national politics, Shettar took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his conduct at an international AI summit in Delhi. He alleged immaturity and inconsistency in Gandhi's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the opposition leader's approach.
Furthermore, Shettar cited remarks attributed to Minister Satish Jarkiholi regarding corruption and percentage deals in government works. He emphasized that any registered cases related to such allegations should be impartially investigated, with the guilty held accountable and punished accordingly.
Shettar's statements underscore growing tensions over infrastructure development and governance in the region, with calls for greater transparency and efficiency in handling public projects.
