Shiv Sena and BJP Seal Key KDMC Posts Unopposed in Mahayuti Alliance Consensus
In a significant political development, all three crucial committee chairperson positions within the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) have been filled without opposition. This outcome stems from a consensus reached between the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the Mahayuti alliance framework.
Power-Sharing Arrangement Details
According to the established power-sharing agreement, the pivotal Standing Committee—often described as the "treasury" of the civic body—will remain under Shiv Sena's control. Mallesh Shetty has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee. Additionally, Sarika Jadhav from Shiv Sena has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Women and Child Welfare Committee, while BJP's Abhijit Tharval will lead the Education Committee.
Officials confirmed that only one nomination was submitted for each of these three posts, resulting in their unopposed election. The formal announcement of these results was made on Monday, highlighting a smooth and coordinated process.
Strategic Importance of Committee Roles
The Standing Committee holds a key role in financial decision-making within the corporation, making its control strategically vital. With Shiv Sena retaining this committee along with the Women and Child Welfare Committee, and BJP securing the Education Committee, the alliance formula ensures a balanced distribution of influence.
Following his appointment, Mallesh Shetty emphasized that the committee's operations would be conducted by taking all stakeholders into confidence. He noted that decisions would be made after a thorough examination of the civic body's financial status, particularly given that no municipal elections have occurred in the past five years.
Focus on Education and Future Plans
Abhijit Tharval, elected as a corporator for the first time, stated his commitment to enhancing the quality of education in municipal schools. "Children from ordinary families study in civic schools. Efforts will be made to provide better educational facilities and improve standards," he said, expressing gratitude to Mahayuti leaders for their trust in him.
The unopposed elections underscore a well-coordinated political understanding between the alliance partners in KDMC, reflecting a stable and collaborative approach to local governance.
