In a dramatic political development, the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray has suffered a significant setback in the Akola Municipal Corporation. Four of its six corporators defected to the rival Shinde-led Sena in a meticulously planned post-midnight operation, severely weakening the Thackeray group's local influence.

The crossover occurred around 2 AM on Wednesday at the Thane residence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The defecting corporators include Manoj Patil, Sagar Bharuka, Surekha Kale, and Sonali Sarode. This move was further compounded by the defection of district chief Mangesh Kale, dealing another blow to the Thackeray faction's organizational structure in the region.
All four corporators were elected on Shiv Sena (UBT) tickets during the recent civic polls. Their departure reduces the faction's representation in the 80-member municipal house to just two seats, effectively eroding its leverage in critical municipal decision-making processes.
