Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Enforces Traditional Observances for Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti
The city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is set to celebrate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj this Thursday with a renewed focus on discipline and tradition. In a significant move, the administration and the Shiv Jayanti Utsav Committee have jointly resolved to prohibit DJ systems and laser lights during all processions and public programs.
Strict Regulations Mirror Ganeshotsav Protocols
Police and civic authorities have announced that no permissions will be granted for DJs or laser light systems, drawing parallels with restrictions enforced during Ganeshotsav celebrations. This decision extends to religious structures as well, which must avoid using loudspeakers installed without prior authorization.
The firm stance was reiterated during a coordination meeting attended by event organizers, police officials, and municipal representatives. Some committee office-bearers initially raised objections to the DJ ban, but police commissioner Pravin Pawar and municipal commissioner G Sreekanth firmly reprimanded them for their insistence.
Official Warning Against Unruly Behavior
Commissioner Pawar questioned why DJ systems were being demanded for a celebration meant to honor the revered Maratha warrior king. "No permission will be granted for DJs or laser lights under any circumstances," Pawar declared. "We will not allow the festival to be turned into a law and order issue." He warned that strict action would be taken against any violators of these regulations.
Extensive Celebrations Planned Across the City
Within the police commissionerate limits, there are 61 statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that will serve as focal points for tributes. The city has scheduled 95 processions and seven torch rallies for February 19. Additionally, stage tributes will be organized at 35 locations, image worship at 80 places, and Shiv Charitra recitals at eight different venues.
Elaborate Security Deployment for Smooth Conduct
To ensure peaceful celebrations, authorities have planned an extensive security arrangement. The bandobast will include three deputy commissioners of police, seven assistant commissioners, 29 inspectors, 150 assistant inspectors and sub-inspectors, along with approximately 1,500 police personnel. CCTV monitoring and route patrolling will be intensified throughout the city.
Citizen Suggestions for Hassle-Free Celebrations
During the coordination meeting, citizens offered several practical suggestions to improve the celebration experience. These included:
- Removal of road encroachments from Seven Hills to the Gajanan Maharaj temple, extending up to Sutgirni Chowk
- Closure of over 40 unauthorized road dividers between Gajanan Maharaj temple chowk and Cidco bus stand
- Repair of streetlights and drainage issues in Naregaon area
- Creation of a separate, barricaded space for women at Kranti Chowk
Focus on Traditional Cultural Performances
Officials emphasized that this year's celebrations will highlight traditional performances including dhol-tasha groups, lezim troupes, and cultural programs that reflect the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. All activities will adhere strictly to noise pollution norms and public safety guidelines, ensuring respectful and meaningful observances of the Maratha king's birth anniversary.
