Congress leader B S Shivanna has dismissed the complaint filed by the Janata Dal (Secular) against his nomination as frivolous. The JD(S) had alleged that Shivanna's affidavit omitted details of criminal cases registered against him. Speaking to reporters, Shivanna asserted that the complaint was baseless and politically motivated.
Background of the Complaint
The JD(S) approached the election authorities claiming that Shivanna's nomination papers did not disclose certain criminal cases. The party demanded scrutiny of the affidavit and possible disqualification. However, Shivanna refuted these claims, stating that all required information was provided in compliance with election guidelines.
Shivanna's Response
Shivanna termed the complaint as an attempt to divert attention from real issues. He said, "The JD(S) is resorting to such frivolous complaints because they have no substantial issues to raise. My affidavit is complete and transparent." He also challenged the JD(S) to provide evidence for their allegations.
The Election Commission is yet to take a decision on the complaint. Meanwhile, Congress leaders have rallied behind Shivanna, accusing the JD(S) of misusing the legal process.
- JD(S) alleges omission of criminal cases in affidavit.
- Shivanna denies any wrongdoing.
- Congress supports Shivanna, calls complaint baseless.
The political tussle comes ahead of the upcoming elections, where both parties are expected to contest fiercely. Observers believe this complaint may not have a significant impact on Shivanna's candidacy.
