Siddaramaiah Intensifies Campaign in Bagalkot, Targets BJP's Governance Record
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conducted an extensive campaign rally in Bagalkot on Saturday, accompanied by several cabinet colleagues, to garner support for Congress candidate Umesh Meti in the upcoming bypolls. During his visit, he engaged with representatives from various organizations, institutions, and community leaders, delivering a strong political message ahead of the elections.
CM Accuses BJP of False Promises and Lack of Achievements
Addressing organizational representatives, Siddaramaiah emphasized the political maturity of voters, stating, "They know everything. We cannot cheat them by making false promises." He launched a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which governed Karnataka for nine years between 2008-2013 and 2019-2023 under four chief ministers, including BS Yediyurappa. "What are their contributions to the state? They did nothing to claim as their achievement," he asserted, questioning the BJP's developmental record.
The Chief Minister alleged that BJP leaders are misleading the public by labeling Congress as corrupt and claiming no development occurred under their rule. "Who will believe them when their allegations are far from the truth?" he asked, adding that voters reject dishonest candidates. Siddaramaiah highlighted his own political longevity since 1983, attributing it to public trust in his truthfulness and commitment.
Congress's Fulfilled Promises and Development Initiatives
Siddaramaiah detailed Congress's accomplishments, noting that the party has fulfilled all pre-poll promises, implemented the five guarantees, and allocated substantial funds for development works. He specifically addressed farmer compensation for the Upper Krishna project, revealing that affected farmers are already receiving compensation: Rs 30 lakh per acre for agricultural land and Rs 40 lakh per acre for irrigated land. He assured that all eligible farmers who come forward will be compensated accordingly.
Regarding the bypolls, the CM expressed confidence in Congress's prospects, citing previous victories with significant margins. "People will vote only if we work for development; otherwise they will reject us," he stated, predicting wins in both Davanagere and Bagalkot constituencies.
Expansion of Medical Education and Social Welfare
On the topic of medical education, Siddaramaiah recalled announcing the establishment of medical colleges in every district during his tenure as deputy chief minister, a plan now being actively implemented. He disclosed that medical colleges have been sanctioned in 25 districts, with four to five more approvals expected soon. This initiative aims to enable poor children from all castes and religions to become doctors, thereby enhancing healthcare services across the state.
Concerning ticket allocation, Siddaramaiah explained that Congress follows a tradition of granting tickets to family members of sitting MLAs in the event of their death, ensuring continuity and respect for legacy.
Allegations of Divisive Politics and Call for Social Equality
In meetings with community leaders, the Chief Minister accused the BJP of practicing caste and religion-based discrimination, contrasting it with Congress's inclusive approach. "Congress works for the poor, women, the downtrodden and OBCs without discrimination," he affirmed, alleging that the BJP ignores figures like Basavanna while focusing solely on Hindutva politics.
Siddaramaiah urged citizens to prioritize education for their children to foster societal equality and called on police to ensure the safety of women, children, and weaker sections. He concluded by appealing for public support for Umesh Meti, pledging comprehensive development for Bagalkot and reinforcing Congress's commitment to progressive governance.
