Siddaramaiah Dismisses Speculation on Leadership Change Ahead of Bypolls
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Karnataka firmly stated on Saturday that the outcomes of the forthcoming byelections hold no connection to his position as chief minister, directly refuting widespread political speculation. Speaking to reporters at Mysuru Airport, he emphasized that discussions regarding a potential leadership shift within the Congress party are entirely baseless and without merit.
Confidence in Congress Retaining Key Segments
Expressing unwavering confidence, Siddaramaiah projected that the Congress party will successfully retain both the Davanagere South and Bagalkot assembly segments in the upcoming bypolls. He highlighted the party's disciplined structure, noting, "Ours is a high-command party. We will abide by whatever the high command decides," when questioned about internal party dynamics and leadership rumors.
He further bolstered his optimism by pointing to the opposition's recent electoral performance. Siddaramaiah remarked that the opposition had lost two out of the three segments it previously held during the November 2024 by-polls, which he interprets as a clear indicator of the relative strength between the parties and the prevailing political sentiment across Karnataka.
"In April 2026, Congress will retain the segments and demonstrate its strength," the chief minister declared, underscoring his belief in the party's enduring appeal and organizational capability.Detailed Campaign Schedule Unveiled
Outlining a meticulous campaign strategy, Siddaramaiah revealed his electioneering itinerary, which is set to commence in Bagalkot on March 30 and 31. He will then proceed to Davanagere South on April 1 and 2, followed by a return to Bagalkot on April 3 and 4. After a brief visit to Kerala on April 5, the chief minister will resume his campaigning efforts on April 6, focusing on either Davanagere South or Bagalkot, depending on strategic needs.
Resolution of Internal Dissent Boosts Prospects
In a positive development for the Congress party, Siddaramaiah confirmed that internal dissent within the Davanagere South constituency has been effectively resolved. This resolution is expected to significantly enhance the party's prospects in the area, creating a more unified front as they approach the critical byelection.
The chief minister's statements collectively project a narrative of stability, confidence, and strategic preparedness within the Congress camp, aiming to solidify voter support and counter any narratives of uncertainty or division ahead of the pivotal electoral contests.
