Siddaramaiah Clarifies Higher Grants to Kurubas Not 'Intentional'
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday clarified that the higher grants allocated to the Kuruba community were not 'intentional' but were distributed strictly in accordance with prescribed norms. He emphasized that the government followed established procedures without any bias.
The clarification comes amid criticism from opposition parties, who alleged that the grants were increased deliberately to woo the Kuruba community ahead of upcoming elections. Siddaramaiah dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister stated, "The grants were released based on the recommendations of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes and other statutory bodies. There was no intentional favoritism."
The Kuruba community, traditionally involved in sheep herding, has been a significant support base for Siddaramaiah, who himself hails from the community. However, he maintained that the government's decisions are guided by principles of social justice and not electoral considerations.
Opposition leaders, including BJP state president, have demanded a detailed inquiry into the allocation, questioning the timing of the enhanced grants. Siddaramaiah challenged them to prove any wrongdoing, reiterating that all norms were followed.
The issue is expected to be raised in the upcoming assembly session, with both ruling and opposition parties gearing up for a debate on the matter.
