She stated that the former cricketer-turned-politician would re-enter the political arena only if the Congress party declares him as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming state elections.
The CM Candidacy Condition
Navjot Kaur Sidhu made these significant remarks to reporters in Chandigarh on Saturday, following a meeting with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The discussion with the Governor centered on key state issues, including law and order. She emphasized that their commitment was to Punjab's welfare, not financial power plays in politics.
"We always speak for Punjab and Punjabiyat," she asserted. "We do not have Rs 500 crore to give just to sit in the chief minister’s chair." She positioned her husband as a leader focused on delivery, adding, "If any party gives him the power to improve Punjab, we will give results and turn the state into a golden Punjab."
Internal Hurdles and Loyalty to Congress
However, Navjot Kaur Sidhu pointed to a major obstacle within the Punjab Congress unit itself. She claimed that intense internal competition could block her husband's path, with as many as five senior leaders already vying for the top post. This infighting, she suggested, creates an uncertain environment for Sidhu's political promotion.
Despite this, she reaffirmed Sidhu's connection to the party's leadership. "My husband is strongly attached to the Congress and to party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra," she said. The final decision, she indicated, rests with the party high command's recognition of his potential.
When questioned about the possibility of Sidhu rejoining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if offered the chief ministerial role there, Navjot Kaur Sidhu declined to comment, stating she could not speak on his behalf.

Navjot Singh Sidhu has maintained a low profile in politics for several months. He was notably absent from campaigning during the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During this period, he returned to his roots in cricket commentary for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
In April 2024, he also launched his official YouTube channel, Navjot Sidhu Official, where he shares his insights on cricket, lifestyle topics, and motivational content. Earlier, when probed about a political comeback, Sidhu had given an enigmatic response, saying "time will tell" and that his political work was always for public service, never a business.
With the next Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, the clock is ticking for the Congress party to make a strategic decision.
