Six Lives Lost in Separate Bengaluru Road Accidents Over Weekend
In a devastating series of events, six individuals lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred in the outskirts of Bengaluru since Saturday night. The tragedies unfolded in Devanahalli and Medahalli, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the region.
Pilgrimage Journey Ends in Heartbreak Near Devanahalli
What began as a spiritual pilgrimage to Kashi turned into a nightmare for a group of twelve devotees from Tiptur in Tumakuru district. The group had embarked on a fifteen-day religious journey, traveling in a Tempo Traveller vehicle to Kempegowda International Airport to catch an early morning flight to their sacred destination.
According to preliminary police investigations, the vehicle departed Tiptur around 10 PM. Upon reaching Devanahalli, the driver reportedly relied on Google Maps for navigation but missed the correct service road turn near Rani Cross. While attempting a U-turn at the subsequent junction, a speeding truck collided violently with the Tempo Traveller.
The impact proved catastrophic, crushing the front left side of the vehicle and claiming three lives immediately. The deceased women have been identified as Jayamma (60), Yashodamma (60), and Ganga (38). Another pilgrim, Kempamma, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
In total, eight individuals including the driver suffered injuries and received initial medical attention at a private hospital in Devanahalli. The collision left the Tempo Traveller severely mangled, while the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Devanahalli traffic police responded promptly, conducting thorough inspections and transferring the bodies to the mortuary for further procedures.
Separate Tragedy Strikes Near Medahalli
In an unrelated incident occurring around midnight on Saturday near Medahalli, three men traveling in a Tata Ace mini goods vehicle perished after crashing into a stationary truck. The truck had been parked on the roadside due to a flat tire when the collision occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Manikanta, Suresh, and Srinivas, all residents of Bengaluru's Whitefield area. The mini goods vehicle was transporting potatoes from Kolar to Bengaluru when the fatal accident transpired. The force of the impact completely mangled the front portion of the vehicle, leaving no chance for survival for the three occupants.
These back-to-back tragedies have raised serious questions about road safety measures, navigation challenges in peripheral areas, and the need for improved emergency response systems. The incidents serve as grim reminders of the human cost of traffic accidents, affecting both spiritual pilgrims and commercial transporters alike.
