Smriti Irani Confident of BJP Bengal Win, Slams Mamata

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prospects in West Bengal, asserting that the party will form the next government in the state. Speaking exclusively to India TV, Irani launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to address the Sandeshkhali infiltration issue and rampant corruption.

Confidence in BJP's Victory

Irani stated that the people of West Bengal are disillusioned with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and are ready for change. "The BJP will win the upcoming assembly elections in Bengal. The public has suffered enough under Mamata Banerjee's rule," she said. She highlighted the party's grassroots outreach and development agenda as key factors that would resonate with voters.

Sandeshkhali Infiltration Issue

The Union Minister lambasted Mamata Banerjee over the Sandeshkhali infiltration, accusing her of neglecting border security. "The infiltration from Bangladesh has increased under Mamata's watch. Sandeshkhali is a glaring example of her failure to protect the state's borders," Irani remarked. She called for a strict action against illegal immigrants and demanded a probe into the matter.

Corruption Allegations

Irani also targeted the TMC government over alleged corruption in various sectors, including education and health. "Mamata Banerjee's government is synonymous with corruption. From school jobs to healthcare, every sector is plagued by scams," she alleged. She claimed that the BJP would bring transparency and good governance to Bengal.

BJP's Campaign Strategy

Irani outlined the BJP's campaign strategy, focusing on women's safety, development, and cultural pride. "We will highlight the achievements of the central government and contrast them with the failures of the state government," she said. She also emphasized the party's commitment to protecting the rights of all communities.

Reaction from TMC

The Trinamool Congress dismissed Irani's claims, calling them baseless. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "Smriti Irani is living in a fantasy world. The people of Bengal will reject the BJP again." He accused the BJP of spreading lies and divisive politics.

Electoral Significance

West Bengal is a crucial state for the BJP, which has been trying to expand its footprint in the region. The party won 18 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections, its best performance in the state. The upcoming assembly elections are seen as a test of the BJP's growing influence in Bengal.
