Sonepat Mayor Rajiv Jain conducted an inspection of sewage disposal sites across the city on Sunday, ahead of the rainy season, to ensure proper removal of silt and sludge and to check the condition of motors and generators.
Key Findings During Inspection
Jain directed officials to repair faulty motors immediately to prevent repeated burnouts. During the inspection, a motor near Drain No. 6 was found non-operational, and the generator at that location lacked a battery. Additionally, the main stormwater drain pipe near Shani Temple was blocked.
The mayor observed that the drain line had not been cleaned since it was installed and instructed officials to carry out cleaning without delay. Work to remove silt from the disposal tank near Khatu Shyam Temple has already commenced.
Preparations at Various Sites
At the disposal site in Sector 23, Jain emphasized the need for generator arrangements to handle potential power cuts during the rainy season. He also directed officials to keep two additional motors in reserve to ensure the drainage system remains functional in case of motor failures.
At the disposal site on Old DC Road, approximately five to six feet of silt has accumulated in the tank. The mayor stated that the tank will also be cleaned.
Measures to Tackle Waterlogging
Jain said several pump sets are being installed at different locations to address waterlogging. Additional pump sets will be kept in reserve to enable immediate drainage of water from flooded areas.
“If water takes two to three hours to recede during heavy rain, it is normal. However, if it takes longer, immediate arrangements will be made for its removal,” he said.
