Samajwadi Party Pushes for Parshuram Jayanti Holiday in Uttar Pradesh Assembly
In a strategic move highlighting religious sentiments, the Samajwadi Party on Friday advocated for a public holiday on Parshuram Jayanti during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly session. Party chief whip Kamaal Akhtar emphasized that Lord Parshuram is revered by all Hindus, recalling that the previous SP government had instituted such a holiday, which was subsequently revoked by the current Yogi Adityanath administration.
Speaker Rejects Demand Citing Practical Constraints
Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana firmly dismissed the proposal, stating that with numerous saints and deities in Hinduism, it is impractical for the government to declare holidays for each one. This rejection underscores the ongoing political tensions over religious observances in the state.
Government Asserts Transparency in Civil Servant Asset Declarations
Simultaneously, the Uttar Pradesh government addressed concerns regarding civil servant accountability. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, responding to a query from SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra, confirmed that property details of civil servants are publicly accessible as per existing rules. He noted that stringent actions, including suspensions, are enforced against non-compliant officials, with one civil servant suspended since 2019 for failing to declare assets.
Overseas Employment Initiatives Highlighted
Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar provided updates on the state's employment efforts, revealing that 6,000 workers have been sent to Israel, contributing approximately Rs 1,000 crore annually to the Indian economy. He assured that precautions are taken to avoid war-affected areas, with no complaints reported from these workers so far. Additionally, plans are underway to dispatch 1,000 more youths abroad, with targets including countries like Japan, Croatia, and Germany.
Significant Job Creation Under Yogi Government
Minister Rajbhar further highlighted domestic employment achievements, stating that over 8.45 lakh youths have secured government jobs since the Yogi government assumed power in 2017. He expressed optimism that Uttar Pradesh's growth trajectory will soon attract job seekers from other states, positioning it as a hub of prosperity.
Job Security for Outsourced Employees
In response to concerns raised by SP MLA Ragini Sonker, Rajbhar clarified that no outsourced employees will be terminated from their positions, citing a Supreme Court directive. However, he indicated that there are no immediate plans to regularize their services, except in cases involving complaints against them.
This assembly session showcased a blend of religious-political demands and governance updates, reflecting the dynamic interplay between tradition and administrative priorities in Uttar Pradesh.
