Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ignites Protest Against Delimitation Bill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin staged a dramatic protest in Namakkal on Monday, hoisting a black flag and publicly burning a copy of the proposed delimitation bill. This symbolic act marks his strong opposition to the legislation, which is scheduled to be tabled in the Parliament special session starting today.

State-Wide Black Flag Movement Announced

Following Stalin's lead, the DMK party has announced it will undertake a comprehensive state-wide protest. The movement will involve hoisting black flags and burning copies of the bill across Tamil Nadu. Stalin has urged citizens to participate actively by displaying black flags at their homes and commercial establishments for three consecutive days to demonstrate collective resistance.

The protest was initiated with the hoisting of a black flag at the Gopalapuram residence of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, adding historical significance to the demonstration.

Stalin's Fiery Declaration on Social Media

Speaking about the protest on social media platform X, Chief Minister Stalin issued a powerful statement. "Let the flame of resistance spread across Tamil Nadu. Let the arrogance of the fascist BJP be brought down," he declared, framing the protest as a direct challenge to the central government.

Stalin emphasized that this protest movement aims to bring down the BJP government at the Centre, which he accuses of convening the Parliament special session specifically to pass the delimitation bill.

Historical Parallels Drawn with Anti-Hindi Agitation

In his remarks, Stalin drew a significant historical parallel, comparing the current agitation against delimitation with the famous anti-Hindi protests of the 1950s and 1960s. "Then, the fire of resistance against Hindi imposition that rose from Tamil Nadu scorched Delhi. It quietened only after Delhi was forced to yield," he recalled.

Stalin added, "Today, I have reignited that fire by burning the copy of this black law that seeks to turn Tamils into refugees in our own land." He expressed confidence that this fire of resistance would spread throughout the Dravidian land and ultimately bring what he termed the "BJP's arrogance" to its knees.

Background: The Delimitation Bill Controversy

The protest follows what Stalin described as a "stern warning" issued to the BJP-led central government for convening the Parliament special session. The chief minister and his party argue that the delimitation bill would drastically reduce the parliamentary representation of southern Indian states, including Tamil Nadu.

This reduction in representation has sparked fears of political marginalization and has united various political factions in Tamil Nadu against the proposed legislation. The special Parliament session has therefore become a focal point of intense political debate and regional resistance.

The DMK's organized protest represents a coordinated effort to mobilize public opinion and apply pressure on the central government as the delimitation bill moves through the parliamentary process.
