Stalin Congratulates TVK as Vijay's Number Nightmare Ends

Chennai: DMK chief M.K. Stalin on Saturday congratulated Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after actor Vijay's party secured a significant number of seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, ending what was termed as Vijay's 'number nightmare'. Speaking to reporters, Stalin expressed hope that a stable government would be formed in the state.

Stalin's Statement

Stalin said, 'I congratulate TVK for their performance. The people have given a clear mandate. I hope all parties will work together to ensure a stable government is formed in Tamil Nadu.' He added that the DMK is committed to the welfare of the state and will cooperate with all democratic forces.

Election Results

The election results, declared on May 9, 2026, saw TVK winning 18 seats in the 234-member assembly, making it a crucial player in government formation. The DMK-led alliance fell short of a majority, winning 110 seats, while the AIADMK secured 85 seats. The BJP-led NDA won 15 seats.

Vijay, who had faced criticism for his party's performance in previous elections, expressed relief at the outcome. 'This is a victory for the people of Tamil Nadu. We will work towards a stable and progressive government,' he said in a statement.

Political Reactions

Political analysts noted that TVK's performance has reshaped the state's political landscape. 'Vijay has emerged as a kingmaker. His party's support will be crucial for any alliance to form the government,' said political commentator R. S. Rajan.

The Congress party, part of the DMK alliance, also welcomed the results. 'We respect the mandate and will work with all like-minded parties to ensure a stable government,' said Congress leader Karti Chidambaram.

As negotiations begin, all eyes are on TVK's next move. The party has called a meeting of its legislators on Sunday to decide its strategy. Meanwhile, the Governor has invited the DMK to stake claim to form the government, but the numbers remain uncertain.
