CM Stalin Questions AIADMK-BJP Alliance's Leadership Clarity at Chennai Summit

Chief Minister M K Stalin of Tamil Nadu delivered a pointed critique of the AIADMK-BJP alliance on Monday, labeling it as a symbol of contradiction and confusion over leadership. Speaking at the Tamil Nadu Leadership Summit 2026, organized by The Week in Chennai, Stalin highlighted the divergent statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Contradictory Claims on Alliance Leadership

Stalin emphasized that while Modi asserts there will be an 'NDA government' post-elections, Palaniswami claims there will be an 'AIADMK government.' This discrepancy, according to Stalin, reveals a fundamental lack of clarity within the alliance. "They themselves are unclear about who is heading the alliance," he stated, underscoring the internal contradictions that he believes undermine their credibility.

Election as a Contest Between Tamil Nadu and NDA

The Chief Minister reiterated his stance that the upcoming election represents a contest between 'Tamil Nadu and NDA.' He noted that some individuals, an apparent reference to EPS, have questioned this characterization. However, Stalin argued that every visit by Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Tamil Nadu confirms his perspective. He confidently asserted that 'Team Tamil Nadu would defeat Team Delhi' in the electoral battle.

Response to Project Delay Allegations

Addressing Prime Minister Modi's accusation that the DMK delayed the Maduravoyal-Port elevation corridor project, Stalin shifted blame to the AIADMK. He claimed it was the AIADMK that opposed the project initially. "After we assumed office, we took it up with the Union government and ensured the work resumed," he explained. Stalin accused both the BJP and AIADMK of 'spreading falsehood' for electoral gain, suggesting they lack substantive complaints against the DMK.

Highlighting Government Achievements

Stalin took the opportunity to showcase his administration's accomplishments over the past five years. He listed initiatives across multiple sectors:

  • Education: Enhanced access and quality in educational programs.
  • Healthcare: Improved medical services and infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure: Advanced development projects boosting connectivity.
  • Industry: Fostered economic growth and investment opportunities.
  • Women's Welfare: Implemented policies supporting gender equality and empowerment.

He asserted that Tamil Nadu has emerged as an 'all-rounder' state, leading in economic growth and human development indices. Stalin outlined his vision to transform Tamil Nadu into a one trillion dollar economy within the next five years, provided the current growth momentum is sustained.

Ideology Over Arithmetic in Alliance Management

Concluding his address, Stalin described his own alliance as one grounded in ideology rather than mere arithmetic. He dismissed suggestions that managing a broad coalition poses significant challenges, emphasizing the cohesive principles that unite his political partners.
