Sukhbir Badal Escalates Attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann
In a fiery address at a rally in Muktsar, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal launched a sharp critique against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Badal directly challenged the administration's assertions regarding power generation, attributing the state's current electrical capacity to investments made during previous SAD regimes rather than any recent accomplishments.
Power Generation Claims Under Scrutiny
Sukhbir Badal asserted that Punjab's existing power infrastructure is largely the result of strategic developments initiated under earlier Akali governments. He accused the AAP administration of misleadingly taking credit for these foundational projects, which were established long before the current government took office.
"The power position we see in Punjab today is not an achievement of this dispensation. It is the outcome of careful planning and significant investments made during our time in governance," Badal stated emphatically during his speech.
Security Challenge Issued to Chief Minister
The rally took a dramatic turn as Sukhbir Badal issued a direct challenge to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He dared the CM to conduct a public meeting without the protection of his official security detail, which reportedly includes around 500 police personnel.
"I challenge Bhagwant Mann to leave his security contingent behind and come to any village of his choosing. I will also arrive alone. Then we will witness who receives public support and who faces rejection," Badal declared, framing this as a test of genuine popular appeal versus state-protected authority.
Allegations of Political Targeting
Beyond the immediate challenges, Sukhbir Badal raised concerns about what he described as systematic efforts to undermine the Shiromani Akali Dal. He alleged that recent legal and political pressures on the party are part of a broader strategy to weaken its structure and target its leadership.
Drawing parallels to his father, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir vowed to remain steadfast in defending Punjab's interests and the Sikh faith without compromise.
Dispute Over Rally Power Usage
In a related development, former Muktsar MLA Kanwarjit Singh Barkandi addressed allegations from the Chief Minister's office regarding potential power theft at the rally venue. Barkandi firmly rejected these claims, explaining that the floodlights used during the event were part of a cricket academy operating at the grounds.
He explicitly denied any illegal "kundi" connections, stating that all electrical arrangements were legitimate and properly authorized.
The escalating political confrontation highlights deepening tensions between Punjab's principal opposition party and the ruling administration, with infrastructure credit and public accountability emerging as central points of contention.
