Suvendu Adhikari warns TMC's Jahangir Khan

West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has issued a stark warning to TMC's Jahangir Khan ahead of the upcoming repolling in the Falta assembly constituency. Adhikari, in a strong statement, said that he will personally ensure that the repolling is conducted peacefully and without any intimidation. Referring to the popular movie character Pushpa, Adhikari stated, 'So-called Pushpa, my responsibility now,' implying that he will take charge of the situation.

Background of the Falta repolling

The repolling in Falta has been ordered by the Election Commission following reports of widespread irregularities and violence during the initial voting. The TMC candidate Jahangir Khan has been accused by the BJP of orchestrating attacks on opposition workers and intimidating voters. The BJP has demanded strict action against Khan, and Adhikari's warning comes as a direct challenge to the TMC leader.

Adhikari's strong stance

Suvendu Adhikari, who is known for his aggressive political style, said that he will not allow any TMC goons to disrupt the democratic process. 'I am fully prepared to counter any attempts to rig the elections. The people of Falta want a fair vote, and I will ensure that their voices are heard,' Adhikari added. He also urged the Election Commission to deploy sufficient security forces to prevent any untoward incidents.

The TMC, on the other hand, has dismissed Adhikari's statements as mere political posturing. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP is trying to create a narrative of fear and that the repolling will be conducted smoothly under the supervision of the Election Commission. 'The people of Falta have rejected the BJP in the past, and they will do so again,' Ghosh said.

The repolling is scheduled for next week, and security has been tightened in the area. The Election Commission has also appointed special observers to monitor the process. Both parties are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their victory in this crucial by-election, which is seen as a test of strength ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

Adhikari's warning has added to the tension in the region, with both sides accusing each other of planning violence. The BJP has also filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Jahangir Khan, alleging that he has been threatening voters and using muscle power to influence the outcome. The TMC has denied all allegations and accused the BJP of trying to vitiate the atmosphere.
