Political observers in Tamil Nadu have dismissed any possibility of a post-election alliance between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to form the next state government. This assessment comes amid ongoing political developments following the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
TVK Chief's Claim Unanswered
On Wednesday, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay visited Lok Bhavan to formally stake a claim for forming the government. However, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has not yet invited the party to form the government, leaving the political situation in limbo.
No Signs of Major Alliance
Analysts point out that the DMK and AIADMK, traditionally arch-rivals, have shown no inclination toward a tie-up. A coalition between the two parties is considered highly unlikely given their long-standing political rivalry and ideological differences. The election results have not indicated a clear majority for any single party, but observers believe that smaller parties or independent candidates may play a crucial role in government formation.
The TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has emerged as a potential kingmaker. However, the governor's silence on Vijay's claim suggests that the party may not have the required numbers to prove a majority on the floor of the house. Political analysts are closely watching the situation as negotiations continue behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, both the DMK and AIADMK have maintained a cautious stance, with leaders from both parties refraining from commenting on any possible alliance. The coming days are expected to see intense political maneuvering as parties seek to cobble together a viable coalition.
