Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin Inaugurates Three New IT Parks in Southern Districts
In a significant move to boost information technology infrastructure across Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the foundation stone for three new TIDEL Neo parks on Wednesday. The virtual ceremony marked the beginning of construction in Karur, Pudukottai, and Nagapattinam districts, with a combined estimated investment of ₹119 crore.
Details of the Three New IT Parks
The three facilities are strategically located to decentralize IT growth and provide employment opportunities in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The park in Inam Karur, Karur district, will be a four-floor structure spanning approximately 64,000 square feet, constructed at a cost of ₹38.5 crore.
In Pudukottai district, the Nattampannai park will feature three floors covering around 60,400 square feet with an investment of ₹36.7 crore. Similarly, the Nagapattinam town park will also have three floors across 61,000 square feet, built at a cost of ₹43.7 crore.
Employment Generation and Socio-Economic Impact
Collectively, these three parks are projected to create new employment opportunities for approximately 1,800 IT professionals. This initiative is particularly significant as it will enable educated youth in these districts to access IT-related employment within their own regions, reducing migration to metropolitan areas.
According to an official statement, the parks are expected to contribute substantially to the socio-economic development of these regions while supporting the overall growth trajectory of Tamil Nadu's technology sector.
Political Leadership and Attendance
The virtual foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by several prominent ministers and legislators. Natural Resources Minister S Ragupathi, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Industries Minister T R B Raja, and Nagapattinam MLA J Mohamed Shanavas participated in the event, underscoring the government's commitment to regional development.
Expanding Tamil Nadu's IT Infrastructure Network
Tamil Nadu already boasts substantial IT infrastructure through its existing TIDEL parks. The Taramani TIDEL park in Chennai spans 1.2 million square feet across 15 floors, while the Pattabiram facility covers 5.57 lakh square feet with 21 floors. Both are fully operational and house numerous technology companies.
Construction is currently progressing on additional TIDEL parks in Madurai (5.34 lakh square feet, ₹314 crore) and Trichy (5.58 lakh square feet, ₹403 crore), indicating the state's comprehensive approach to IT infrastructure development.
Widespread Neo TIDEL Park Network
Beyond these new projects, Neo TIDEL parks are already functional in multiple districts including Villupuram, Thanjavur, Salem, Tuticorin, Tiruppur, Vellore, and Karaikudi. The state government has recently laid foundation stones for additional parks in Tiruvannamalai, Namakkal, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, and Erode districts.
This expanding network represents Tamil Nadu's strategic vision to create a distributed IT ecosystem that reaches beyond Chennai, fostering balanced regional development and creating technology employment opportunities across the state.
