Tamil Nadu Speaker Accepts Rebel MLA Resignations Amid Allegations

Tamil Nadu politics witnessed fresh turmoil on Wednesday as Speaker JCD Prabhakar accepted the handwritten resignation of rebel MLA Esakki Subbaiah after earlier rejecting a typed version. Subbaiah is expected to join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, amid growing accusations of horse trading.

Resignations and Political Shifts

Three MLAs from the AIADMK rebel camp had earlier submitted their resignations, reducing its strength to sixteen. The acceptance of Subbaiah's resignation has intensified the political crisis in the state. Opposition leaders have alleged procedural violations and urged the Speaker to halt further resignations.

Speaker's Stance on Resignation Format

The Speaker maintained that resignations must follow a proper format and personal submission rules strictly. He emphasized that handwritten resignations are acceptable only if they meet the required criteria. The rejection of the typed version and acceptance of the handwritten one has sparked debate over the consistency of the process.

Opposition's Response

Opposition parties accused the Speaker of acting in a biased manner and demanded an explanation. They claimed that the resignations were being accepted without proper verification, potentially facilitating horse trading. The political drama is expected to continue as more MLAs might resign in the coming days.
