Tejashwi Yadav Counters Nitish Kumar's Development Narrative, Highlights Bihar's Poor Performance

In a sharp political confrontation, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has strongly rebutted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's repeated assertions of Bihar's significant progress under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. The criticism came on Thursday as Yadav took to social media to challenge the claims made during Kumar's ongoing Samriddhi Yatra.

Allegations of Systemic Failure Across Development Parameters

Tejashwi Yadav asserted that Bihar has consistently lagged behind in nearly every development metric over the past 21 years of NDA governance. "In 21 years of NDA government, Bihar is the worst performer in all standards, criteria, and indices of development," Yadav posted on X, formerly Twitter. He accused the chief minister of managing the administration through what he described as "bureaucratic control, state resources and caste politics."

The opposition leader presented a comprehensive list of socio-economic indicators where he claims Bihar ranks at the bottom nationally. According to his assessment, the state suffers from:

  • The highest unemployment rate in the country
  • The highest levels of multidimensional poverty
  • The highest migration rates
  • The highest school dropout rate
  • The highest incidence of crime and corruption
  • The lowest literacy rate nationwide
  • The lowest per capita income among all Indian states

Contrast Between Development Claims and Ground Reality

Yadav highlighted what he called a paradoxical situation where Bihar, despite performing poorly on fundamental development parameters, leads other states in certain expensive commodities. "Despite being the lowest on all development parameters, the state was ahead of other states in terms of buying expensive gas, expensive electricity and expensive fuel," he noted. He further claimed that property acquisition in Bihar has become more costly than in major metropolitan centers like Delhi and Mumbai.

The RJD leader emphasized that Bihar represents a unique case where the NDA's "double-engine government" remained in power for decades, yet failed to deliver substantial improvements across critical sectors including literacy, per capita income, farmers' income, power consumption, and healthcare facilities.

Government's Defense and Counter-Response

Reacting strongly to Yadav's allegations, Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash defended the government's record. "The state progressed a lot in the past two decades. Tejashwi should have properly reviewed the situation before making attacks on the government," Prakash told reporters. He suggested that Yadav should examine the conditions that prevailed twenty years ago before making such critical comments.

Prakash, who is the son of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) President Upendra Kushwaha, maintained that Bihar has witnessed substantial development under the current administration. The minister's response underscores the ongoing political tension between the ruling NDA coalition and the opposition RJD as both parties position themselves ahead of potential electoral contests.

The exchange highlights the deepening political divide in Bihar, with the ruling alliance touting its developmental achievements while the opposition presents a contrasting narrative of systemic failure and stagnation across key socio-economic indicators.
