The committee established to identify and recognize activists of the Telangana movement is making progress toward submitting its report within a specified timeframe, according to committee chairman K Keshava Rao. Speaking on Thursday, Rao confirmed that the panel has already initiated consultations with political parties and plans to hold discussions with various organizations and individuals linked to the statehood movement. The committee aims to gather suggestions from all stakeholders before finalizing its recommendations to the government.
All-Party Meeting Highlights
Addressing reporters after an all-party meeting at the secretariat, Keshava Rao explained that the panel, constituted by the government, is actively seeking input from organizations and people connected with the Telangana movement. The goal is to develop a fair and transparent process for identifying genuine activists. “We are considering a time-bound framework for the committee’s report. The objective is to take everyone’s views into account and formulate clear guidelines for recognizing Telangana movement activists,” he stated.
Consultations with Various Groups
The committee has already met with representatives of political parties that participated in or supported the Telangana movement. Similar consultations are planned with student organizations, advocates, doctors, and other groups that played a role in the agitation. According to Keshava Rao, the first priority is to identify genuine movement activists, including those who participated in the early phases of the Telangana struggle. The committee will prepare a mechanism to verify and document their contributions.
Expanded Consultation Process
BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, a member of the committee, announced that the consultation process would be expanded to include employee unions, student bodies, journalists, lawyers, poets, artists, and cultural activists. “The government wants to recognize and honor everyone who contributed to the Telangana movement. We will also consider the cases of those who suffered injuries, faced legal cases, or made other sacrifices during the agitation,” he added.
Ponnam Prabhakar further stated that suggestions would be accepted both online and offline. The committee’s office will function from the Amaraveerula Sthoopam premises near the secretariat. The panel is committed to ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive process to honor all those who played a part in the historic movement.
