Telangana Government Announces Significant DA Increase for RTC Employees

In a major move aimed at enhancing employee welfare, the Telangana government has officially declared a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC). Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar confirmed that the DA has been raised by 2.1% for the calendar year 2026, marking a positive step forward for the workforce.

Details of the DA Revision and Implementation

With this latest revision, the Dearness Allowance for RTC employees will increase from the current rate of 50.7% to 52.8%. The enhanced rate is scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026, ensuring that employees benefit from the adjustment at the start of the new year. The government has also provided clarity on the payment of arrears, stating that dues for the past three months will be settled through supplementary bills. These arrears will be distributed month-wise over the coming three months, facilitating a smooth and structured disbursement process.

Financial Implications and Recent History of DA Hikes

Minister Prabhakar highlighted that this DA hike will impose an additional financial burden of approximately Rs 2.82 crore per month on the RTC. This increase represents the second such adjustment in recent times, following a previous hike in July 2025. At that time, the state government raised the DA by 2.1%, moving it from 48.6% to 50.7%, demonstrating a consistent focus on employee benefits.

Clarification on Pending Dues and Employee Welfare Measures

According to the minister, there are no pending DA dues for employees following the implementation of the RPS-2017 pay revision in May 2024. The latest increase effectively clears the only remaining pending DA component for RTC employees, providing them with financial relief and stability. The government reiterated its commitment to employee welfare and institutional strengthening, citing several measures such as hospital upgrades for staff healthcare, compassionate appointments, reinstatement of long-removed employees through review processes, new recruitments, and the introduction of new buses to enhance operational efficiency.

Positive Reception from RTC Management

RTC Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy welcomed the announcement, describing it as a positive development for the corporation and its employees. He noted that employees had been eagerly awaiting this DA revision for a long time, and the move is expected to boost morale and contribute to overall institutional well-being. This decision underscores the government's ongoing efforts to prioritize the needs of its workforce while ensuring the sustainability and growth of public transport services in Telangana.
