Hyderabad: In a fiery address, Telangana Chief Minister and state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused the ruling party at the Centre of fabricating fresh Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald matter. According to Reddy, this move is a deliberate ploy to divert public attention from the opposition's 'vote chori' campaign and to stifle any discussion on the issue during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.
Strong Condemnation and Resolution
While moving a resolution at the Telangana Congress executive committee meeting, Revanth Reddy stated that the party "strongly condemns" what he termed as illegal cases against the two senior leaders. He announced that the Telangana Congress would formally send this resolution, along with a letter, to the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"We wish to convey to PM Modi that we will fight against this injustice to the end, and make Rahul Gandhi PM," Revanth declared emphatically. He asserted that the party's leaders and cadres would not be intimidated by such tactics and would stand firmly with the Gandhi family. He highlighted the family's sacrifices, noting they had donated properties, dedicated their lives to the nation, and even spent time in jail during the freedom struggle against the British.
Addressing the newly appointed district Congress committee (DCC) presidents, Reddy reiterated his charge. "The BJP has filed money laundering cases against Sonia and Rahul. The Nehru-Gandhi family launched the National Herald newspaper with their own assets, which played a key role in the country's freedom struggle," he said, defending the historical legacy of the publication.
Performance Targets and Political Strategy
Revanth Reddy, along with AICC Telangana minder Meenakshi Natarajan, set a clear performance mandate for the new DCC chiefs. They have been given a six-month window to prove their mettle, with periodic reviews to decide their continuation or reassignment. The leaders were instructed to strengthen the organisational network from the district down to the mandal, village, and ward levels.
Their key task is to hold widespread discussions in rural and semi-urban areas, highlighting the welfare schemes and development work undertaken by the Congress government in its two years in Telangana. They were specifically directed to inform the public that the previous BRS government left the state with a colossal debt of Rs 8.11 lakh crore, and that despite this financial stress, the current administration has implemented major welfare programmes and most of its six guarantees.
Vision for Telangana and Directives
Shifting focus to governance and future plans, the Chief Minister spoke about the upcoming two-year celebrations of the Congress government and the Telangana Rising Global Summit. He criticised former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for neglecting Osmania University, which he called the epicentre of the statehood movement. The Congress government has now decided to allocate funds to develop OU into an institution of international standards in education and research.
A public meeting is scheduled in front of the Arts College building on December 7. Furthermore, the Telangana Rising 2047 vision document will be unveiled at the Global Summit on December 8 and 9 at Bharat Future City, with an ambitious goal to achieve a $3 trillion economy for the state by 2047.
Revanth Reddy also detailed the state's economic planning framework, which is centred on three zones: the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) for services, the Peri-Urban Region Economy (PURE) for manufacturing, and the Rural Agricultural Region Economy (RARE) for agriculture-led development. Investment and employment strategies will be tailored to each zone.
He issued a direct order to DCC chiefs to ensure the smooth delivery of 65 lakh Indiramma sarees to all eligible rural women this month, followed by 35 lakh sarees in urban areas. He warned that action would be taken against any DCC chief who failed to follow party instructions, reminding them that challenges are inherent in politics and every leader must persevere and move forward.
