Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Urges Crop Diversification, Announces International Fruit Market
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Pushes Crop Diversification, New Market

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday highlighted that Telangana is importing coriander from neighboring states to meet demand, as local farmers predominantly cultivate paddy, maize, cotton, and chilli. He noted that vegetable prices have surged during the Modi government's tenure and urged farmers to adopt crop diversification and cultivate a variety of fruits. The government plans to establish a sauce factory for tomatoes grown in the Kandukur area.

Speaking at a public meeting after laying the foundation stone for an international-level integrated market for fruits, flowers, vegetables, and non-vegetarian items at Koheda, Reddy recalled that farmers in Ranga Reddy district once supplied fruits, vegetables, and milk to Hyderabad. However, real estate growth has led to a decline in agriculture. He stated that the city's population of 1.3 crore within the CURE area cannot be fully met with horticultural needs. The market will offer vegetable facilities in six months and become fully operational on 240 acres with an investment of over ₹2,400 crore within two years.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the market would be accessible to all districts and hoped it would bring recognition to Telangana, similar to the international airport. He accused the BRS of obstructing development projects like the fruit market, Bharat Future City, Regional Ring Road, airports at Warangal and Adilabad, and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He vowed to proceed with these projects to make Telangana a model state.

Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for causing destruction during its ten-year rule and the BJP-led central government for discriminating against Telangana. Despite financial constraints, the Congress government is striving to put the state on a progressive path. He challenged BRS leaders to direct their opposition at him rather than the people by opposing projects.

Taking aim at BJP leaders, including MP D Arvind and Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, for failing to secure funds and project approvals from the Centre, Reddy stated that if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister, he would ensure procurement of every paddy grain, metro rail expansion, national status for PRLIS, financial approval for Musi rejuvenation, and funds for airports in Adilabad and Warangal. He affirmed his readiness to fight for pending projects but prioritized maintaining cordial relations with the Centre to secure approvals.

Reddy noted that 60% of registration revenue comes from Ranga Reddy district, funding welfare schemes across the state. Despite annual registration revenue of around ₹15,000 crore, sub-registrar offices lack proper buildings and basic amenities. The government will create 12 clusters of 39 registration offices within the ORR and construct integrated registrar office buildings with air conditioning and full facilities for citizens.
