Coldwave Grips Telangana, Mercury Plummets to Single Digits

A severe coldwave swept across Telangana on Saturday, bringing biting cold conditions to several districts that recorded single-digit temperatures. According to the latest data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Sangareddy district experienced the sharpest temperature drop, recording a chilling 7.8 degrees Celsius - the lowest in the entire state.

District-wise Temperature Breakdown

The coldwave affected multiple regions significantly. Kumuram Bheem Asifabad followed closely with 8.3 degrees Celsius, while Adilabad reported 9.2 degrees Celsius. Other affected districts included Vikarabad at 9.5 degrees Celsius and Kamareddy at 9.7 degrees Celsius.

Several districts recorded exactly 10 degrees Celsius, including Rangareddy, Nizamabad, and Rajanna-Sircilla. The cold conditions also impacted Siddipet (10.1 degrees Celsius), Medak (10.2 degrees Celsius), Jagtial (10.4 degrees Celsius), and Nirmal (11.2 degrees Celsius), all experiencing sharp overnight temperature dips.

Hyderabad Feels the Chill

The state capital Hyderabad didn't escape the coldwave's grip either. Multiple areas across the city continued to experience biting cold conditions. Serilingampally recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius while Rajendranagar saw 12.8 degrees Celsius.

Other prominent Hyderabad localities including Begumpet, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally, and Moosapet experienced temperatures ranging between 14.9 and 16.6 degrees Celsius, making early mornings and late evenings particularly uncomfortable for residents.

Weather Forecast and Precautions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle likely in parts of the state for the next two days. The weather agency also warned that mist or hazy conditions may prevail during morning and night hours.

Heavy rain is also very likely at isolated places in Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Nagarkurnool districts. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold weather and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.

The sudden temperature drop has prompted health authorities to issue advisories, especially for elderly citizens and children who are more vulnerable to cold-related health issues. People are recommended to wear warm clothing and avoid early morning exposure to the cold when possible.
