Hyderabad: Congress MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy met AICC leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday and reportedly urged him to provide a cabinet berth. Aspirants have been visiting Delhi to lobby for cabinet positions, as expectations grow that the two vacant berths in the cabinet will be filled by the end of the month.
Congress MLAs Lobby for Cabinet Berths
Several Congress legislators, including Malreddy Ranga Reddy, T Ram Mohan Reddy, assembly speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, and other leaders, have recently met Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to request consideration for a cabinet berth. On Saturday, Komatireddy Raj Gopal shared a photo of his meeting with Rahul Gandhi on X. Sources indicate that he urged the AICC leader to honour the alleged commitment made to him regarding a cabinet berth when he returned to Congress from the BJP before the 2023 assembly elections.
Background of the Demand
The Telangana Congress government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, currently has two cabinet vacancies. Several MLAs who were instrumental in the party's victory in the 2023 assembly elections are seeking recognition through cabinet positions. Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who switched from BJP to Congress ahead of the elections, claims that a promise was made to him at that time. The party leadership is now under pressure to balance caste and regional representation while filling the vacancies.
Other aspirants have also been active in New Delhi, meeting top Congress leaders to press their claims. The party is expected to announce the new ministers soon, possibly by the end of this month. The development highlights the internal dynamics within the Telangana Congress unit as it seeks to consolidate its position in the state.
