Krishnagiri: Tension prevailed near Pochampally in the district on Wednesday after a TVK flag was found hoisted on a DMK flagpole in Satinayakkanpatty village. The flagpole was installed by former panchayat president and DMK member Venila Murugesan on the boundary of her agricultural land.
Incident Details
According to the villagers, an unidentified person hoisted the TVK flag on the DMK flagpole in the early hours of Wednesday. When local DMK members noticed it in the morning, more than 100 party workers gathered in the area. The DMK flag had been removed from the pole earlier in view of the assembly election, as stated by Murugesan.
Police Intervention
When alerted, the Parur police visited the spot and held talks with DMK members. Party workers told police that the TVK flag should not be removed until the person responsible for hoisting it was identified and arrested. With the situation turning tense, more than 20 police personnel have been deployed in the village to ensure law and order.
Background
The flagpole was originally installed by Venila Murugesan, a former panchayat president and DMK member, on her agricultural land. The DMK flag was removed ahead of the assembly elections, leaving the pole empty until the TVK flag was hoisted by an unknown individual.
Local residents expressed concern over the escalating tension, urging authorities to swiftly identify the culprit to prevent further unrest. Police are investigating the incident and have increased patrolling in the area.
