Chennai: Three AIADMK MLAs — S Jayakumar (Perundurai), Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam-SC), and P Sathyabama (Dharapuram-SC) — submitted their resignations to Speaker J C D Prabhakar on Monday. They were among 25 MLAs from the C Ve Shanmugam-S P Velumani camp who voted in favor of the Tamiliga Vettri Kahagam (TVK) government in the recent vote of confidence.
Resignations and Political Realignments
Sources within the AIADMK revealed that the three MLAs decided to resign following a promise from TVK Chief Coordinator and Minister K A Sengottaiyan that they would be accommodated and fielded in their respective constituencies in the upcoming by-elections. This move indicates a significant shift in allegiance, as these MLAs are now expected to contest under the TVK banner.
Reconciliation Efforts
Meanwhile, a few MLAs from the rebel camp called on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) as part of the ongoing reconciliation drive. MLAs P Haribaskar (Anthiyur), S Mohan (Panruti), and S M Sugumar (Arcot) formally met EPS at his Greenways Road residence, signaling a move toward reunification within the party.
The resignations and the parallel reconciliation efforts highlight the fluid political dynamics in Tamil Nadu, as factions realign ahead of the by-elections. The AIADMK leadership is working to consolidate its base while the TVK camp seeks to expand its influence by attracting defectors.
