Three Cousins Killed, One Critically Injured in Nalanda Road Accident
A devastating car crash on the Ekangarasrai-Jehanabad road near Kathhar bridge in Nalanda district resulted in the tragic deaths of three young cousins and left one in critical condition on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred when a speeding vehicle lost control and violently collided with a concrete bridge divider, causing catastrophic damage.
Victims Identified as Residents of Jehanabad District
The victims have been identified as Rohit Kumar (22), Upendra Kumar (18), and Sonu Kumar (21), all residents of Teni Bigha village in Jehanabad district. The critically injured youth, Suraj Kumar (19), was urgently referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for emergency medical treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, the four cousins had traveled together to Bhatu Bigha village in Ekangarasrai to attend the tilak ceremony of a friend's sister from Masaurhi. The accident happened during their return journey. Preliminary investigations by the Telhara police station indicate that a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction attempted to overtake near Kathhar bridge. In a desperate effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver of their car swerved sharply, lost control, and crashed into the concrete divider.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely wrecked. Two of the occupants died instantly at the scene, while the third succumbed to his injuries en route to Patna for treatment. Suraj sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently fighting for his life at PMCH.
Police Response and Rescue Operations
Telhara police station in-charge Ajit Kumar Tinku stated that police personnel arrived promptly at the accident site and conducted swift rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Model (Sadar) Hospital in Biharsharif for post-mortem examinations. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash, with initial findings pointing to the attempted overtaking maneuver as a key factor.
