A tragic incident occurred in Athoor Agraharam, Dindigul district, on Monday night, where three individuals, including a married couple, lost their lives due to electrocution. The suspected cause was a power leakage in the residential building.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Karuppaiah (44), a mason by profession, his wife Sudha (34), and Subramani Siva (20), a college student who lived with his parents on the ground floor of the same house. Karuppaiah and Sudha resided on the first floor with their two daughters, aged 15 and 12.

Sequence of Events

Police reported that after a light rain around 9:30 PM, Karuppaiah attempted to go upstairs. Upon touching the steel railing on the terrace, he was electrocuted. Sudha and Subramani Siva rushed to help him but were also electrocuted in the process.

Neighbors immediately alerted the electricity board, which disconnected the power supply. The victims were rushed to Athoor Government Hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival. Their bodies have been sent to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Investigation and Findings

Sempatti police inspector Saravanan stated that a preliminary inspection revealed no leakage from overhead power lines on the terrace. Initial findings suggest that electrocution occurred due to leakage from corroded internal wiring, which likely passed electricity to the steel railings. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Officials from the electricity board inspected the site and implemented necessary measures to prevent any further untoward incidents.
