The exodus from the AIADMK continued on Saturday, with several senior leaders making a beeline for the ruling TVK. Former AIADMK ministers Udumalai K Radhakrishnan, Kadambur C Raju and M C Sampath are the latest to join the growing list of defectors. The trio, along with their supporters, arrived at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur to formally join the ruling party. Their induction comes amid a steady stream of leaders and cadres shifting allegiance to TVK following its rise to power. The latest defections are expected to further weaken the AIADMK's organisational strength in regions where the three leaders wield considerable influence. Party functionaries said more leaders from opposition parties are likely to join TVK in the coming days.
The three former ministers, who held key portfolios in the previous AIADMK government, are known to have significant grassroots support in their respective constituencies. Their departure is a major blow to the AIADMK, which has been struggling to retain its cadre base after consecutive electoral defeats. Political analysts suggest that the TVK, under the leadership of its chief, is consolidating its position by attracting experienced politicians from rival parties. This strategy is aimed at strengthening the party's organizational structure ahead of the upcoming local body elections. The AIADMK, on the other hand, is facing an internal crisis with several senior leaders either quitting or being sidelined. The party's leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the latest defections. Meanwhile, the TVK leadership welcomed the new members, stating that their experience would be invaluable in furthering the party's agenda of development and social justice.
