TMC Leader Sayani Ghosh Criticizes BJP in Assam Campaign Rallies
Trinamool Congress leader and Jadavpur MP Sayani Ghosh launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party while campaigning in Assam's Cachar district on Thursday. She asserted that her party is poised to expand its footprint in the state, targeting the BJP's central leadership and policies.
Confidence in TMC's Future and Mamata Banerjee's Leadership
Addressing election rallies in the Udharbond and Sonai constituencies, Ghosh expressed strong confidence that Mamata Banerjee will return to power in West Bengal for a fourth consecutive term. Furthermore, she projected that Banerjee would go on to become the Prime Minister in the future, highlighting TMC's growing ambitions on the national stage.
Allegations Against BJP's Divisive Politics
Taking on BJP's central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Ghosh stated that the TMC knows "how to keep them in check." She asserted that her party stands firmly against what she termed "divisive politics," accusing the BJP of fostering religious and caste-based divisions. In contrast, Ghosh claimed that TMC respects all religions and focuses on livelihood issues rather than identity politics.
Questioning BJP's Governance and Job Promises
Ghosh questioned the BJP-led government at the Centre, asking what happened to the assurance of generating two crore jobs annually. She alleged that the BJP does not think about farmers, labourers, or women, serving only its own interests. In a pointed swipe, she called Modi a "campaign minister" rather than the Prime Minister, criticizing his governance record.
Claims of Secret Understanding Between BJP and Congress
Alleging a "secret understanding" between the BJP and Congress, Ghosh referred to remarks by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. She claimed these comments indicated tacit coordination between the two parties, suggesting collusion in political strategies.
TMC's Pitch as an Alternative in Assam
Pitching her party as a viable alternative in Assam, Ghosh promised that if people support TMC, the party would ensure equal respect for Bengali Hindus and Muslims in the state. She committed to better access to jobs, healthcare, and education at a local level, aiming to reduce the need for residents to travel to West Bengal for these services. Currently, in the 294-member West Bengal assembly, the BJP holds 64 seats, while the TMC has 219, underscoring TMC's dominant position in its home state.
