In a heartening display of state support, the Tamil Nadu government has extended a lifeline to three orphaned siblings in Tiruvarur district. The children, who lost both parents, will now receive crucial monthly financial assistance and have been granted land for their long-term security.
CM Stalin's Personal Touch and Immediate Relief
Chief Minister M K Stalin personally intervened to console and motivate the children through a video call on Saturday. Following this interaction, the state machinery swiftly approved substantial aid for the struggling family. Each sibling will receive a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 under the government's 'Anbu Karangal' welfare scheme, with the funds being transferred directly into their bank accounts to ensure timely support.
The three siblings are Swathi, aged 17, Swetha, 16, and their younger brother Siveswar, who is 9 years old. They hail from Nannimangalam village in the Koothanallur taluk. Their world was first shattered five years ago when their mother, Sumathi, passed away after an illness. Their father, Sivakumar, a tailor, then single-handedly shouldered the responsibility of raising his children until he too succumbed to illness a few months ago, leaving them completely orphaned.
A Life of Hardship and Unbroken Determination
Despite facing immense personal tragedy and financial ruin, the siblings have shown remarkable resilience. They currently reside in a modest thatched house with a leaking roof, which offers little protection from the harsh elements of rain, heat, and cold. As full-time students with no opportunity to earn, they were living in dire financial straits with no income for daily necessities.
Yet, their commitment to education never wavered. Swathi and Swetha continue their studies in classes XI and XII respectively at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Koothanallur. Their younger brother, Siveswar, is a Class IV student at a nearby government-aided school. Relatives have been helping to look after them, but the lack of resources cast a long shadow over their future. Swathi holds onto a dream of becoming a nurse, a goal that now seems more attainable with state support.
Land Allocation and a Promise of Security
Going beyond immediate monetary aid, the Tamil Nadu government has also taken a significant step to secure the children's future by allocating land for them. In a formal ceremony, Industries Minister T R B Raja, along with Tiruvarur District Collector V Mohanachandran, MLA Poondi Kalaivanan, and other officials, visited the siblings to personally hand over the land documents.
This combined intervention—providing both recurring financial aid under the Anbu Karangal scheme and a tangible asset like land—aims to offer the orphans a foundation for a stable life. It underscores the state's role in safeguarding its most vulnerable citizens, especially children striving to build a future against overwhelming odds. The Chief Minister's direct communication has not only provided emotional solace but also reinforced the government's commitment to their welfare and educational aspirations.
