Tamil Nadu Minister Visits Family of Student Killed in Accident Involving TVK Leader's Vehicle

In a solemn gesture of support, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi visited the family of a college student who tragically died after an accident involving the vehicle of TVK leader Vijay. The minister offered condolences and consoled the grieving family at their home in Trichy on Wednesday night.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The incident occurred on March 4 near Sengipatti in Thanjavur district. The student, identified as P Vignesh, aged 19, and his friend Arun were following Vijay's vehicle on a motorcycle as the TVK leader was en route to a party meeting. During this pursuit, their motorcycle collided with a police vehicle, resulting in severe injuries for both riders.

Vignesh, a third-year B.Com student at an autonomous college in Trichy, was rushed to a private hospital in the city for treatment. Despite receiving medical care for 19 days, he succumbed to his injuries on March 23, marking a devastating loss for his family and community.

Minister's Repeated Visits and Support

Minister Poyyamozhi, who also serves as the MLA for Thiruverumbur, had previously visited Vignesh's family on March 10 while the student was still undergoing treatment in Thanjavur. During that initial visit, he reportedly assured the family of support for the mounting medical expenses, demonstrating a commitment to their welfare during a difficult time.

However, this gesture sparked criticism against TVK, with many noting that senior party leaders had not made similar visits to the family. In response, TVK's local unit in Thanjavur clarified that they were actively supporting Vignesh's medical expenses, aiming to address public concerns and show solidarity.

Family's Perspective and Aftermath

Vignesh's father, Pandiyan, who works as a milk vendor, expressed his distress over the incident. He revealed that Vignesh had gone to see Vijay without informing the family and against his explicit advice, highlighting the personal turmoil and regret surrounding the accident.

The minister's latest visit underscores the ongoing efforts to provide emotional and practical support to the bereaved family, as they navigate the aftermath of this tragic event. The case has drawn attention to issues of road safety and the responsibilities of public figures in such situations.
