Trichy Auto Workshops in Frenzied Rush to Customize Election Campaign Vehicles

With major political parties beginning to announce their candidate lists for the state assembly elections scheduled for next month, car accessory workshops in Trichy are engaged in a frantic race against the clock to customize and modify campaign vehicles. The demand for specialized fittings has surged as parties prepare for intense hyperlocal campaigning across the district.

High-Tech Customizations in High Demand

Political parties are requesting a range of sophisticated upgrades to ensure their campaign vehicles stand out and function efficiently in the sweltering summer heat. Wireless Bluetooth speakers are being installed to enhance audio clarity during rallies and announcements, while energy-efficient LED lights are favored to reduce heat dissipation and improve visibility. These modifications are not just about aesthetics; they are crucial for effective voter outreach in the limited campaign window.

The customization work typically starts at a minimum cost of Rs 1 lakh, with the final price heavily dependent on the vehicle's size and the quality of products used. Despite many candidates not being officially finalized by their parties, confident party members anticipating a nomination are proactively modifying their vehicles to hit the ground running.

Parties Gear Up for Hyperlocal Campaigning

Unlike parliamentary elections, assembly elections demand a more localized approach, prompting parties like the DMK, AIADMK, AMMK, and Congress to ready a fleet of campaign vehicles. These include mini-trucks, SUVs, and mini-tourist vans designed to navigate and cover every corner of the district efficiently.

J Senthil Kumar, owner of Annai Leo Auto Accessories in Dheeran Nagar, highlighted the diverse requests from political clients. "Many parties are asking for attached toilets in the vans. Some demand hydraulic lifts. But the most common request is to strengthen the vehicle's stability even if members overcrowd the vehicle. Some vehicles are equipped to accommodate 20 people at a time," he explained.

Power and Permissions: The Final Steps

The additional gadgets and features, such as fans and audio systems, are powered by portable diesel generators to ensure uninterrupted operation during long campaign trails. Once customization is complete, parties must take the vehicles to Regional Transport Office (RTO) offices to obtain special permits. These permits are then submitted to the election department to secure official permissions for campaign activities, a critical step in complying with electoral regulations.

This rush underscores the strategic importance of well-equipped campaign vehicles in modern Indian politics, where visibility, comfort, and functionality can significantly impact voter engagement in a condensed election schedule.
