Trichy District Collector Conducts Pre-Election Inspection of Counting Centers

In preparation for the upcoming assembly election, District Election Officer and Collector V Saravanan carried out a thorough inspection of the ongoing arrangements at one of the designated counting centers on Wednesday. The visit aimed to ensure all necessary preparations are fully in place to support a smooth and efficient counting process on the scheduled day.

Key Locations for Vote Counting in Trichy District

Saravanan personally visited the counting center established at the Oasys Institute of Technology in Pulivalam, which falls under Musiri taluk within Trichy district. The district has set up counting centers at two strategic locations to manage the votes from its nine assembly constituencies.

Jamal Mohamed College in Trichy has been selected as the primary center, designated to handle the counting for five constituencies:

  • 145 Musiri
  • 146 Thuraiyur (SC)

Logistics and Timeline for the Counting Process

Following the completion of polling on April 23, all electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be securely transported to their respective counting centers. These machines will then be stored in specially prepared strong rooms to ensure their safety and integrity. On May 4, the EVMs will be retrieved from the strong rooms, and the official vote counting will commence.

Currently, extensive preparatory works are actively underway at both centers. In strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, separate rooms are being allocated and meticulously prepared for various critical functions. These include:

  1. Strong rooms for the safe storage of EVMs
  2. Designated counting halls
  3. Control rooms for coordination
  4. Media rooms for press coverage
  5. Observer rooms for monitoring officials

Ensuring Amenities and Security for Counting Day

On the day of counting, both centers are expected to witness several thousand individuals, including election officials, administrative staff, candidates, party observers, police personnel, armed security forces, and media representatives. Collector Saravanan emphasized the importance of providing robust basic amenities to accommodate this large influx.

During his inspection, he specifically reviewed the provision of:

  • Uninterrupted and reliable power supply
  • Adequate drinking water facilities
  • Sufficient and clean toilet facilities
  • Comprehensive security arrangements to be maintained until the entire counting process is concluded

The inspection was attended by officials from key departments, including election, revenue, police, and public works. Collector Saravanan issued necessary instructions to these officials, directing them to execute all preparatory works with the highest efficiency and in full compliance with electoral protocols.

This proactive review underscores the administration's commitment to conducting a transparent, orderly, and secure vote counting process for the assembly election in Trichy district.
