Trichy MP Durai Vaiko Initiates Construction of New Bus Shelter on National Highway
In a significant development for public infrastructure, MP Durai Vaiko laid the foundation stone for a new bus shelter along the Trichy-Chennai National Highway in Mannarpuram on Friday. This project addresses a long-pending demand from the local community, which has grown more urgent since the city bus stand was relocated from Sangiliyandapuram (Central bus stand) to Panjapur.
Addressing Public Demand with MPLAD Funds
The initiative to build this passenger shelter was spearheaded by Durai Vaiko in September 2025, utilizing the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. Recognizing the need for improved transit facilities, he took proactive steps to secure the necessary approvals and arrangements.
Key Actions Taken by the MP:
- Formal requests were submitted to the regional officer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Trichy city corporation commissioner.
- These communications sought administrative approvals and required arrangements for the shelter's construction.
- After persistent follow-ups, all necessary approvals have recently been secured, paving the way for the project's commencement.
Enhancing Commuter Convenience and Safety
The new bus shelter is expected to significantly enhance the commuting experience for residents and travelers along the busy Trichy-Chennai corridor. By providing a designated waiting area, it aims to improve safety and comfort, especially in light of the increased traffic and passenger movement following the bus stand shift.
This project underscores the importance of responsive governance in addressing grassroots infrastructure needs, leveraging MPLAD funds for tangible public benefits.
