Trinamool Booth President Brutally Murdered in North 24 Parganas
In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old Trinamool Congress booth president was discovered dead on Thursday morning along Haroa-Bhangar Road in Minakhan, North 24 Parganas. The victim, identified as Kazi Masiur Rahman, had his wrists severed and displayed signs of acid burns on his face, indicating a brutal attack.
Discovery of the Body and Initial Findings
Local residents found Rahman's body wrapped in a thin blanket on the roadside. Police from the area reported that preliminary investigations suggest he was hacked to death, though the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after a postmortem examination. The body was initially taken to Haroa Rural Hospital and later transferred to Basirhat District Hospital for autopsy procedures.
Background of the Victim and Last Known Movements
Kazi Masiur Rahman was a resident of Gangnia village in Chapatla gram panchayat, Deganga, and served as the Trinamool booth president for booth 178 in the region. According to family members, he received a phone call around 9 PM on Wednesday, after which he left his home. His phone was subsequently switched off, prompting an overnight search by his family, who later learned about the discovery of his body.
Tensions and Allegations of Intra-Party Rivalry
The incident has sparked significant tensions in the area, with local Trinamool activists alleging that intra-party rivalry was behind the murder. They pointed fingers at a senior Trinamool figure in the Deganga block. Dhananjay Pramanik, a member of the Deganga panchayat samiti, mentioned that Rahman had recently protested against the construction of a road in the locality, which may have contributed to conflicts.
Rahman's wife, Sabina Bibi, expressed her grief and claimed that her husband had made several enemies within the party. She stated, "He was attacked a few days ago and feared an attempt on his life. We had gone to Deganga police station, but our complaint wasn't taken." She added, "My husband fell prey to bitter rivalry between factions of Trinamool block committee netas, and he was brutally murdered."
Police Investigation and Current Status
Police authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the case. Basirhat SP Alaknanda Bhowal informed that a case has been registered, and necessary legal procedures are underway. All possible angles are being probed, but no arrests have been made so far. The investigation aims to uncover the motives behind this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
