After a nearly two-month hiatus, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhgam (TVK) chief Vijay has dramatically returned to the political arena, launching a fierce offensive against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government. The firebrand leader accused the DMK of systematic 'loot' and indirectly targeted the party for practicing dynasty politics, marking a significant escalation in his campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Return to the Political Battlefield
Vijay made his powerful comeback at an indoor auditorium of an educational institution in Sunguvarchattiram, Kanchipuram district, where he addressed a gathering of party cadres, supporters, and local residents. This event marked his first public engagement since the tragic September 27 stampede in Karur, effectively signaling the resumption of his political campaign ahead of next year's crucial state election.
The TVK leader didn't hold back in his criticism of the ruling party, particularly targeting the DMK for questioning his party's ideological foundations. He countered these challenges with a robust defense of TVK's principles and a detailed list of their political stands that distinguish them from established parties.
Ideological Battle Intensifies
Vijay took direct aim at the DMK's skepticism about his party's ideology, asserting that TVK was built on solid foundational principles. "The DMK now asks, 'What is the price of ideology?' They question us about our ideology," he stated, as reported by news agency ANI.
He elaborated on his party's concrete ideological positions, highlighting several key issues where TVK has taken definitive stands. "We have demanded a caste-based census, opposed the Waqf Act and approached the Supreme Court as the first party to do so, and we have strongly opposed the CAA as well," Vijay declared, establishing his party's track record on significant social and political matters.
Corruption Allegations and Political Strategy
The TVK chief didn't merely defend his party's positions but went on the offensive with serious allegations against the DMK. In a particularly biting remark, he stated, "The DMK's ideology, however, is corruption." He further mocked the ruling party by describing it as "a 75-year-old child" whose behavior was being closely watched by the entire state.
Vijay also revealed his political strategy moving forward, suggesting that the DMK was already feeling threatened. "We haven't even begun to oppose the DMK in full force yet; they are already trembling," he claimed, indicating more aggressive opposition in the coming months.
On the contentious NEET issue, Vijay differentiated his approach from the DMK's, accusing the ruling party of making "empty claims" while his party advocated for a constitutional solution by seeking to shift education from the concurrent list to the state list.
This resumption of Vijay's political activities signals the beginning of what promises to be an intense campaign season leading up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the TVK positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the established Dravidian parties.
