TVK President Vijay Summoned by CBI for Third Time in Karur Stampede Probe
In a significant development, TVK president Vijay traveled from Chennai to Delhi on Saturday, responding to a summons from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This marks the third time he has been called as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic Karur stampede that occurred on September 27, which resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals.
Political Speculation Denied Amidst Delhi Visits
Both the TVK and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have firmly dismissed rumors linking Vijay's recent visits to Delhi, including two in January, to potential political maneuvers. Speculation had suggested efforts to bring him into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fold or to secure censor board approval for his film 'Jana Nayagan'. However, officials from both parties have refuted these claims, emphasizing that the visits are unrelated to such agendas.
BJP Leaders Assert NDA's Strength in Tamil Nadu
BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran addressed reporters in Chennai, stating, "I have no idea about it. Maybe you (reporters) know better than me." Meanwhile, former BJP state president K Annamalai, speaking in Coimbatore, highlighted the NDA's robust position in the state. He declared, "NDA is strong and does not expect any party in the alliance. The March 17 protest against the DMK government is proof that we are strong and coordinated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited three times and will come twice or thrice again after election dates are announced. We are travelling on our path."
TVK Official Warns Against Rumors and Media Distractions
TVK deputy general secretary C T R Nirmal Kumar took to social media platform X to caution party functionaries against believing unfounded rumors. He urged them to await official communications from the party, stating, "These speculations are circulated with the intention to divert attention from public issues." He attributed the spread of such rumors to certain segments of the media and social media, underscoring the need to focus on substantive matters affecting the public.
Minor Airport Delay Due to Security Check
Prior to his departure from Chennai airport via a chartered flight, Vijay experienced a minor delay during the security screening process. Sources within the Airports Authority of India reported that a pair of scissors was discovered in his bag during routine scanning. The item was promptly disposed of, ensuring compliance with security protocols before his journey to Delhi proceeded without further incident.
