Ulfa Militant Surrenders in Coordinated Security Operation
In a significant development in India's northeastern region, a cadre of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) voluntarily surrendered before security forces during an operation conducted in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district. The incident occurred on Thursday at Noglo village, with official confirmation coming through a report released on Saturday.
Intelligence-Driven Operation Leads to Breakthrough
The successful operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs provided by the 4th detachment of the Eastern Command Intelligence Battalion (ECIB) and 36 LIC. The Assam Rifles, working in close coordination with police forces from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, conducted the mission that resulted in the peaceful surrender.
The individual who laid down his arms was identified as 23-year-old Kamal Akhun, who also went by the alias Vikas Mohanta. The young militant decided to abandon the path of violence and return to mainstream society through the established surrender procedures.
Weapons Recovery and Legal Proceedings
During the surrender process, security forces recovered significant weaponry from the former militant's possession. The items seized included:
- A 7.65 pistol
- One magazine
- Six live rounds of 7.65 bullets
Following standard protocol, Kamal Akhun has been formally handed over to the police along with all the recovered weapons and ammunition. The authorities will now initiate the necessary legal formalities while also beginning the rehabilitation process designed to help former militants reintegrate into society.
This surrender marks another achievement for the security forces operating in the strategically important northeastern frontier region, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence operations between different security agencies.
