Unseasonal Rains Wreak Havoc in Gujarat Districts
Unseasonal rainfall accompanied by powerful winds struck isolated areas in Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar districts of Gujarat, leading to significant disruptions in power and essential services. The unexpected weather event has raised alarms over potential impacts on standing crops in the region.
Power Outages and Water Supply Issues
In Godhra, located within Panchmahal district, heavy winds and showers on Thursday night resulted in widespread power outages across several locations. The lack of electricity subsequently affected water supply on Friday, as tanks could not be filled, causing inconvenience to residents.
Transport and Pilgrimage Disruptions
As a precautionary measure for pilgrims visiting the Mahakali Temple during Chaitri Navratri, operations of the Pavagadh ropeway were suspended from Thursday evening until night due to the strong winds. Services were successfully resumed on Friday morning, allowing normal activities to continue.
Rainfall Across Districts
In Dahod district, areas such as Zalod and Dahod experienced light rainfall, while strong winds contributed to power disruptions. Meanwhile, Balasinor in Mahisagar district recorded heavy rain, adding to the weather-related challenges faced by the local communities.
Agricultural Concerns
Officials have expressed concerns that the unseasonal showers are likely to impact standing crops in the region. This unexpected weather pattern could pose risks to agricultural productivity, affecting farmers and the local economy.
The situation highlights the vulnerability of essential infrastructure to sudden weather changes and underscores the need for preparedness in such events.
