The Uttar Pradesh Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, presented on Wednesday, has allocated a substantial sum of Rs 2,180 crore specifically for development projects in the state capital, Lucknow. This significant financial commitment is aimed at enhancing urban facilities and institutional capacity across multiple critical sectors, including infrastructure, tourism, healthcare, technology, and public services.
Major Infrastructure and Metro Expansion Initiatives
In the urban development sector, approximately Rs 800 crore has been proposed for infrastructure works under the city development area and various development authorities. These funds are designated for civic infrastructure improvements, road works, public amenities, and other essential development activities that will bolster the city's urban landscape.
Among the standout public projects, the government has allocated Rs 550 crore for the expansion of the Lucknow Metro project. This allocation includes Rs 400 crore to address existing liabilities and Rs 150 crore earmarked for developing infrastructure along the east–west corridor, which is expected to significantly enhance public transportation and connectivity in the city.
Tourism, Agriculture, and Healthcare Enhancements
Tourism and environmental infrastructure have also received focused attention in the budget. The Kukrail Night Safari project has been allocated Rs 207 crore, with plans to develop it in the Kukrail forest area. This initiative is anticipated to promote eco-tourism, generate employment opportunities, and attract a steady stream of visitors upon completion.
In the agriculture and marketing sector, construction of a Kisan Agri Mall in Vikalp Khand, Gomtinagar, is underway at an estimated cost of Rs 76.41 crore. This facility is designed to support farmers by providing improved marketing, storage, and processing infrastructure for agricultural produce, thereby boosting the local agrarian economy.
Healthcare infrastructure in Lucknow is set to receive a major boost with the allocation of about Rs 326 crore for the Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute. This funding is expected to strengthen cancer treatment services, expand medical facilities, and improve access to advanced care for patients across the region.
Technology, Innovation, and Security Investments
The budget also includes provisions for the establishment of a U-Hub in Lucknow and Gautambudh Nagar, with an allocation of around Rs 70 crore for its setup and an additional capital provision of about Rs 30 crore for infrastructure and related facilities. This state-level platform aims to promote startups and entrepreneurship by encouraging innovation and collaboration among industry stakeholders, investors, and institutions.
Another significant proposal in the technology and security sector is the establishment of a Cyber Security or Cyber War Centre in the city, with an estimated allocation of about Rs 95 crore. This initiative is aimed at strengthening cyber monitoring capabilities and protecting digital infrastructure from potential threats.
Additional Budgetary Provisions for Public Services
The budget further encompasses allocations for expanding trauma centre facilities, improving infrastructure in medical colleges, constructing hostels and hospital buildings, promoting digital health systems, and taking steps to strengthen super-speciality medical services. These measures are intended to enhance the overall healthcare ecosystem in Lucknow.
Additionally, the budget provides for strengthening veterinary and administrative infrastructure. Construction works have been proposed at the Animal Husbandry Department campus in Badshahbagh, including residential quarters for staff and development of basic infrastructure such as roads, drains, parking facilities, septic tanks, and borewells. Approximately Rs 5 crore has been allocated for these works.
For the Rashtra Prerna Sthal project, the government has allocated Rs 50 crore dedicated to management, operation, security, and maintenance, ensuring the site's long-term upkeep and preservation as a cultural landmark.
