Uttar Pradesh Government Allocates Rs 4.27 Crore for 90 Rescue Boats to Combat Drowning Incidents
In a significant move to address the rising number of drowning deaths in water bodies across the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a major procurement initiative. The state administration has sanctioned a substantial budget of Rs 4.27 crore to acquire 90 rubberised inflatable rescue boats along with 90 motors, aiming to bolster the operational capabilities of the UP Police and disaster response teams.
Enhancing Rescue Operations with Advanced Equipment
The official order, issued by the Home (Police) department, grants both administrative and financial sanctions for this crucial procurement. According to government officials, this strategic investment is designed to enhance the police force's capacity for timely rescue and emergency interventions in aquatic environments. The initiative specifically targets rivers, canals, and reservoirs, where drowning incidents have been increasingly reported.
The procurement breakdown includes two key components:
- Rescue Boats: A sum of Rs 2.02 crore has been allocated for 90 rubberised inflatable rescue boats, each with a 4.5-metre capacity. These boats are engineered for durability and efficiency in water rescue scenarios.
- Motors: An additional Rs 2.24 crore has been earmarked for 90 four-stroke, 30-horsepower motors, which will power the boats to ensure swift response during emergencies.
Timely Implementation and Financial Mandate
The government has imposed a strict timeline for this project, mandating that the entire sanctioned amount of Rs 4.27 crore must be utilized within the current financial year 2025–26. This directive underscores the urgency of the situation and the administration's commitment to rapid deployment of resources to save lives.
By equipping the UP Police and disaster response units with these advanced tools, the state aims to significantly reduce drowning fatalities and improve overall public safety in water-prone areas. This proactive measure reflects a broader effort to strengthen emergency preparedness and response mechanisms across Uttar Pradesh.
